Unconscious Bias – a choice of interventions

Raising the understanding of the negative impact that unchecked unconscious bias may have on an organisation is always multi layered and should be appropriate to the culture and situation of the organisation.

We offer a range of interventions from one-hour lunchtime workshops to anonymous audits and intensive coaching, all of which are available globally either face to face or with the use of technology.

Below is a brief description of each intervention.  If you would like further information about any of these, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Our testing
All of our testing, whether online anonymously or as part of a coaching programme, is administered with privacy, professionalism and ease of use to the takers.

Stand alone tests
These may be arranged by age, disability, ethnic origin, gender or sexual orientation with either face to face feedback or written self guided feedback.  (The self guided version may be branded.)

Customer experience/brand testing
Discovering what your customer really thinks about your brand can provide a competitive advantage.  Most organisations carry client profiles but subconscious profiles enhance these 10 fold.

Audit
Our audits explore a sample group who undertake a bespoke test anonymously.  Metrics and outcomes are agreed in advance which is key to measuring the success of interventions and to drive challenging conversations.

Pre-programme testing
Often the impact of our interventions can be enhanced by an anonymous test being completed.  The group’s results are then shared as an aggregate often in a scenario situation.

Bespoke tests
We can design bespoke tests to address key issues in your organisation from childed/unchilded employees or specific ethnic groups, local/national issues, religions/cultural issues.  If English is not the first language we can also offer local language versions.

Our workshops and leadership programmes

1. VIVE!  Our flagship leadership model – carries unconscious bias at its core.  This may form the basis of a leadership programme either face to face or via advanced webinar interventions.

2. One day intensive intervention: “Uncovering and dealing with unconscious bias”. This may be used as a standalone piece or incorporated into a wider leadership programme.

  • Web Delivered Programs – up to 40 delegates (link opens a pdf)
  • Standard 2 x 2 hour intervention or bespoke interventions using specific corporate examples

3.  E-learning intervention: This 2 hour self guided interactive programme explores the basics of unconscious bias and offers techniques for spotting and overcoming bias in self.  Bespoke and off-the-shelf versions are available.

4. Conference workshop: Our skilled presenters will design and run a workshop at your corporate conference for any number of delegates.  Beginning with a rousing speech and then exploring the brain and introducing the concepts of unconscious bias.  Micro behaviours and affinity bias, together with specific corporate incidents, may be explored using drama in training.

The workshops may also address group and corporate bias in very interactive ways.

5. Exploring organisation bias: A challenging one day programme aimed at senior levels in your organisation.  Outcomes can vary but often are around understanding generally what is happening within the organisation and what the senior team are doing to support this.  This may be delivered as a pre-cursor to all other activities with or without pre-testing.

6. Unconscious bias for recruiters/interview panels: A one day programme that seeks to first make social bias “normal” before exploring how individual and group negativity and affinity bias affects choices.

7. Our coaching interventions: We offer a series of bespoke interventions following online testing.  Our fully qualified and licensed coaches share our philosophy that bias is normal and that to unlearn its results will take a fuller understanding of self and some good, solid practical ways to ensure new behaviours become normal.

Our coaches are also experienced in business and strategic choice and so can help coaches to see the wider impact of hidden bias.  We offer global coaching via the internet or face to face.   Typically three sessions are taken.

8. Conference speeches or panel events: Our skilled presenters will either offer a rousing speech exploring unconscious bias and how it relates to your business or go further and reveal findings of any pre-testing as a group.  We can also incorporate our VIVE! leadership model to ensure that it is seen as a key component of tomorrow’s leadership practice.

Alternatively Angela Peacock may be invited either to speak at your event or host a panel discussion in this area.
